COMMUNITY

BEMS AND GEMS

(Boys Empowerment Movement and Girls Education Movement)

The BEMS and GEMS clubs are school-based clubs made up of girls and boys who are committed to the promotion of equal human rights and dignity – also mutual respect between girls and boys.

Vision

  • To establish a productive group of learners to be part of the BEMS and GEMS club.

  • To encourage learners who participate in these clubs to form a supportive partnership with educators, parents and adults in their communities as well as government officials in National, Provincial and District offices.

Mission

  • Equal access to education for girls and boys

  • To provide training in different topics which include

    • how to form a club and make it work;

    • peer education, and

    • other issues related to the promotion of equal access to education for boys and girls

The most important thing about the BEMS and GEMS club is that they are run for the learners and by the learners.  The BEMS and GEMS clubs engage in different activities that are based on issues that concern young people.

We meet at first break on Mondays and, on Wednesdays, after school from 14h15 – 15h30

We need 40 learners per club:

Grade 8 and 9

Grade 10, 11 and 12

RECYCLING CLUB

Recycling is when waste material is converted into a form in which it can be used again.

The club provides a learning experience to all learners and everyone involved.  By recycling at school, learners are not only learning the basics of recycling, but also of sustainability and environmental stewardship.

This particular club also provides opportunities of variable hands-on and real-life lessons to learners.

The Recycling Club is aiming to assist the less privileged in our community, which also includes the disabled and aged person, as well as the SPCA.
